Rock & Kite
by on May 28, 1999 in Poetry

I’m heavy now
And rough and grey
You can’t push me around
Been washed ashore
And here I sit
Now steady on the ground
Well I can be a rock
And at times I don’t even mind
I’ve let you be the kite
You fly free while I hold the line
But what if I want to fly
Out into the great unknown?
What if I get tired of holding on
And I let go?
And what if I told you I’d prefer
To be the one to dream?
That when you and I fight for air
I let you win
While I struggle to breathe?
Well maybe I need to meet a rock
Who’ll let me fly away
Or at least he’ll just give me the option
So I don’t feel so heavy and grey
