Words and Melodies
by on February 27, 2014 in Lyrics

Born in a land of freedom
Our parents worked so hard
Sacrificing so many things
So we could follow our hearts
Hank Williams, Cash and Stevie
Playing on the radio
Daddy memorizing every line
Like they were his stories to be told

Yeah it’s running through my veins
It’s the air I need to breathe
I can’t turn it off
I’ll never stop
These words and melodies
When I’m hiding in my room
And I’m struggling to see
I write it down to understand
Through words and melodies

They put me in the back row
I always stood out from my peers
A tall skinny country loving music girl
Was an easy girl to tease
I got my first guitar under a lit up tree
And that was it yeah some kind of love
I found what I was born to be

Our Family prayer
Was a song we wrote
Held hands every night
Mom singing us to sleep
She’d smile then turned down the light

It’s running through my veins
It’s the air I need to breathe
I can’t turn it off
I’ll never stop
These words and melodies
When I’m hiding in my room
And I’m struggling to see
I write it down to understand
Through words and melodies

Heartbreak, tears, fears and dreams
Now it all just flows through me
Living out loud is the thing
That sets me free

It’s running through my veins
It’s the air I need to breathe
I can’t turn it off
I’ll never stop
These words and melodies
When I’m hiding in my room
And I’m struggling to see
I write it down to understand
Through words and melodies

I’m livin’ outside Franklin
A little place that you’ll find me
Sittin’ on my porch swing
Strummin’ words and melodies
